F-Gas - Are you ready? |

Thermocold Ltd is in the front line of a new battle to clean up UK industry and stop fluorinated greenhouse gases, covered by the Kyoto Protocol, leaking into the atmosphere from faulty or ill-maintained air conditioning equipment.
New European Union laws that hit Britain on 4th July 2007 will force companies and other organisations with air conditioning plant into a tough new regime of equipment care. While no exact levels of fines have yet been set for abuse, the F-gas regulation will be stringently policed and persistent offenders face heavy penalties.
All Thermocold engineers are trained to the required standard to meet the requirements of the legislation in order to help companies properly maintain their equipment and stay within the law. Thermocold has introduced a system to assist companies in meeting the demands for adequate labelling and record-keeping required by the new law.
According to Neil Davison Company Director, many UK businesses were unaware that this new regulation was about to be enforced. “We have contacted our clients to inform them that F-gas came into force on the 4th of July – and the major implications it holds for their business.”
F-gas legislation
Since July 4th, 2007, the new F-gas legislation has made it imperative to have your equipment regularly checked for leaks and adequately maintained by a qualified supplier. The legislation also demands that you clearly identify and label relevant equipment and keep comprehensive records of usage.
Choosing THERMOCOLD AFTERCARE maintenance will cover all of these regulatory obligations. Companies must have equipment containing these refrigerants regularly tested. All relevant plant must be clearly labelled and maintained and comprehensive records kept. Records must be made available for inspection by enforcement officers. The 'Thermocold Aftercare' maintenance package will provide a comprehensive solution.
Neil Davison added: “This whole issue of climate change and working towards the Government's zero emissions targets is too important not to be taken seriously. Companies need clear, independent guidance on what the legislation actually requires. The regulators would prefer to educate businesses and get them to buy into the vision. In doing this we hope to highlight the benefits that saving energy will have for their business performance and bottom line.”
The company has set up a dedicated enquiry line fgas@thermocold.co.uk to advise concerned clients.
